Day 20 – Bilbao

Bilbao is astonishing!

I like the scenery in Spanish cities, but Bilbao is very special! Today is Saturday and a lot of the shops are closed in the afternoon. Nevertheless the people are sitting together in the bars or stand on the streets. The scenery is framed by old and modern buildings next to each other.
Bilbao is a city which has managed the change from a former industrial city to a cultural metropolis and a livable city. You can still recognize the industrial past at the same time you can feel the spirit of a modern Spanish city.

One of the most impressive buildings in Bilbao is the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum.

No, not the three people on the left side.

Unfortunately it is not allowed to take photos inside the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum.

But, I am a indecent boy. 😉

Day 19 – Oriñion to Bilbao

Today we enjoyed the day at the beach of Oriñion and Rio Agüera for swimming.
In the morning there was tide water, so we decided to go to the river for swimming.

After some time, water comes back.

Running in the shallow water.

Some impressions from the beach.

Time for coffee and making plans for the rest of the day.

We do some shopping and …

Tonic waters, more than at home. I like the design.
Variety of olive oil.
This was one of my favorite drinks as I was a child.

… drove to Bilbao.

This is the view from where I am sitting and writing this blog for today.

Day 18 – I did it again!!!

We stayed in Puente San Miguel for the night.
In the morning it was loud outside the camper car. Looking out the window we recognized, that some other „campers“ were building up their tent. 😉
It took them less than one hour to build up the circus tent.

After breakfast I took a walk through the town of Puente San Miguel.

Train station of Puente St. Miguel.
A sign with the name of the road.
Puente Sobre el Río Saja.
The entrance to the Finca de los Botín y Sanz de Sautuola.
The upper part of the house of Miguel Rodríguez Astarloa.

At noon we headed to our next place, near Bilbao. And then I did it again!
Driving on the freeway, I saw a beautiful beach on the left. So I took the next exit to get there. Some minutes later we arrived at the beach instead of driving to our destination, planned for the day.

The problem with acting like this is, that we will never get home if we stop at every pretty location. We are still more than 1.200 kilometers away from home and we have only eight to ten days left.

Less time, too much to see!

Sea snail.
Flora in the dunes.

The place where we arrived is Oriñón. It is located at the sea side of a big fjord and river Agüera.

View to the land side with the fjord and the river Agüera.
This is where the river meets the ocean.

After dinner we went to the beach again and all the water was gone.
